Youth Violence.

AUGUST 2020

Summary of the REVIEW TITLED“Roots of Youth violence”.

Premier McGuinty launched the Roots of Youth Violence community review in June 2007 because he felt that “no parent should ever have to worry about losing their child to violence” and that we all have a responsibility to do everything we can “to make children, schools and communities safer … and help young people make good choices” (Premier’s announcement, June 11, 2007).

Curling et al.’s interviewed over 750 people over the course of 10 months to produce the following extensive four-hundred plus page report on the roots of youth violence. Researchers focus on gun violence in youth and how youth could become so so alienated and disconnected from society that they carry guns and often use them in impulsive ways. They inquired into the mindset of those youth and, from that analysis, we identified the immediate risk factors for their behaviour.

Sky Knowledge Institute intends to produce a comprehensive summary of the Roots of Youth Violence report in August 2020 to assist organizations who are considering defunding the police as a response to gun violence in youth.
